Choosing 1-2-3-or-4-home solar panels or even an solar panel system -What are the 3 critical considerations?

a) Your electrical Use / consumption… -how much electricity your use each day will have a huge impact on whether you need 1-2-3 or 4 Home Solar Panels

Just because you have sun shining for 10 hours a day does not mean the sun’s intensity is at the rate it can produce solar energy for 10 hours..every location has a different rate and you can calculate your sun hours via a geographical map. c) The design of your home solar panel system will also largely impact on whether you need 1-2-3 or 4 home solar panels. This  will include choices about the wiring and components.

For instance, you can have your solar panel connected any of these 4 ways:

• directly to your appliance
• via an invertor
• via a charge controller/battery dc load
• Off grid -going through an electrical panel with generator plus battery
• On grid – no battery storage

Here is a great way to estimate what kind of watts your home solar panel can generate and find out is it 1-2-3-or-4-home-solar-panels?

Step 1: Your  Average Daily Usage -Gather your electricity bills get your last 12 months worth of electrical bills together and add up the kWh from all of your bills for the year or look at the back of your electricity bill for your average daily usage

Step 2: Sun hours-(the number of hours per day of solar sun available to you)Use the solar insolation map to find the amount of solar radiation hours in your area Even though sun may be above the horizon 14 hours a day the sun’s intensity may only result in 1-6 hours  of effective sunlight for your home solar panel. YOU need to know this to work out if you want 1-2-3 or 4 Home Solar Panels for you home.  Usually solar hours are between 9am to 3pm –

Step 3:Work out how many solar watts you need per day- if you yearly electrical consumption is 6,000 kWh then add 3 zeros to get the total amount of watts you use per year.6,000,000 watts) Now divide these watts by 365.

I found my average daily usage for summer on the back of my power bill -average of 7kWH (kilo watt hours)If 7,000 watts of electricity daily/7,000,000watts yearly

Step 4: Your almost there and very soon you will know if you need 1-2-3-or-4-home-solar-panels. So just a few more steps – the Watt-hours (or kWh) you want to produce in one day and divide it by the Sun hours (insolation value), in hours.

• My Sun hours(solar insolation) 4 hours
• 7000watts / 4 (solar sun)= 1,750watts or 7kWH / 4 = 1.75kW

Each solar sun hour produces:
17500 watts (1.75kwH) x 4 = 7000watts(7kWh)

So we need a 1750 watt system or 1.7 kW system with 4 hours of solar sun to produce 7kWh per day or 7000 watts per day.

But there’s one more calculation that will help with you get a more realistic idea of how much your home solar panel array will produce.
Add a little more for energy loss 30%

Step 5: Allow for the normal energy losses and inefficiencies in a solar electric system.  Add number of Watts (or kilowatts) you found in Step 3 by 30% -  1.75 kW x 1.3 = 2.2 convert to watts 2,200

My solar power panel array needs to bring 2200watts per hour for 4 hours so I can have( 7000 watts (7kWh) plus 30% loss calculated)
8800 wattts (8.8kWh) Phew! Seems like a lot of work …but it’s like anything the next time you do a quick calc it gets easier but there is a home solar panel guide that comes with a sizing calculator included that does all the calculating you’ll need

Back to the job…

2200 watts x 4 sun hours = 8800watts per day                 2200 watts / 200watt solar panels  = 11 solar panels that are 200 watts each
